Procedure for obtaining single dose Rubella, measles, mumps

The procedure for obtaining the rubella vaccine has changed. The  kitasato institute
should not be contacted directly by patients or doctors. To obtain the vaccine
either .

1  Ask your doctor to order the vaccine on a named patient basis through IDIS World medicines.( adress below) Under government restrictions on importing single dose vaccines the doctor will need to state on the order form the reason  for requesting the vaccine. Government rules allow single doses to be imported if the course has been started  for instance by obtaining  either the measles or mumps vaccine abroad. The GP can write started the course. Doctors have also given the reason as being that the licensed alternative is unsuitable due to ethical objections . The medical control agency  to whom IDIS must send all  forms has raised no objections.

The GP will need to obtain permission from there medical defence organization before administering the vaccine. They will stipulate that signed informed consent has to be obtained by the child's parent.

2 If your GP  is unwilling or unable to order the vaccine the vaccine will soon be available
from Desumo health care.  Desumo has decided to switch from the licensed fetal cell vaccine Eruvax to the Takahasi strain. The kitasto institute has agreed to supply them on a
regular basis. They intend to order around 300 doses a month. The clinic is held in Worcester on every second and forth Saturday of the month. Worcester  is an ideal central location and we are very grateful to Desumo for deciding to change  to using the ethical vaccine which should make it considerably easier to obtain. As the vaccine must still be ordered on a named patient basis  desumo must be contacted in advance. They expect
to have the first order in November. The price has yet to be negociated. Please contact
them via their web site. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/desumo/frameset.htm
